I got to end the school year at Holland Hill Elementary School PAINTING murals for FUN in the Sun day!
It was a celebration of a GREAT YEAR for both the teachers and students.
I am very grateful for our community and the friends my two sons have made since we moved here from Brooklyn two years ago.
This year, Mrs. Ralabate, taught Tennessee more than I could have ever imagined, as he under took Kindergarten.
Mrs. Moore taught August, as a 2nd grader, how to be an accountable and self-assured student. He did most of his homework on his own because she was checking it daily. I am grateful that it was between them and that he felt a sense of responsibility.
I learned from all the teachers at Holland Hill too. Together, Mrs. Ralabate and Tennessee, taught me exactly what he needed to be able to TAKE ON Kindergarten. We all know it is not what it once was, no one is learning how to tie their shoes anymore; it is reading, math and everything in between.
So cheers to him, to her and to all the TEACHERS who have inspired our kids this past year!
Woo hoo! Summer is finally here! Let’s PAINT!
Painting with the ALPHABET
FUN in the SUN with the KINDERGARTENERS at HOLLAND HILL.
We did 4 paintings: Under the Sea, Sight Words, and Into the Woods.
Thank you to the Mom’s and Ryan (my husband) who helped do the ART that day with me. I was not alone.
We taught the kids to create animals out of letters. We painted a school fish made out k’s, a lion with two j’s, a bear made out of d’s, two foxes out of v’s, an octopus of u’s, and many butterflies put together by b’s. They took our directions, a brush and just had at it! The paintings speak for themselves.
We only had 20 minutes with each group and we were outside for 2 hours.
I look forward to doing this exercise inside the classrooms, so I can have more time to work with each artist. They were so enthusiastic and I was impressed by their ability to listen and execute the animals. The sight words, leaves, flowers, and waves were all free draw and the students did them with great glee.
